This young guy must have quite a story to tell, and we are fairly certain he never knew the comforts of being inside a home. He was found emaciated with bite wounds to his neck and then literally minutes away from being destroyed at a county shelter for being afraid.
His foster parent says "He has acclimated nicely to being in a home, loves having his Carolina Dog buddy to play with and gets along great with my pitty/lab mix as well. My cat has taught him to respect boundaries, though he still sometimes tries to chase and play with her and can't quite figure out why she's not allowing it. He is still wary of strangers and loud or sudden movements, but has shown absolutely no signs of aggression. He will sometimes still run up to someone and bark when they enter the room, but after a good sniff he settles right down. He gets along great with my teenage boys and young stepdaughter.
Due to his still somewhat shy personality, he might be best in a home without very small children, and with someone who understands his personality and is willing to continue to work with him. He is a very, very sweet boy that just wants love and to please and would really like another dog sibling to play with. He is extremely treat motivated and has already learned sit, and is currently working on "lay" down, stay, and come! This boy is really smart and playful, and a bit stubborn (he has the personality of a CD for sure!)
Tex is potty trained, though his cues are quiet, so there may be an occasional accident if missed. He loves going into his crate (casa) to relax, with the door open. However, if the door is closed and he's left alone he will try everything to get out, including pulling and chewing on the door. He prefers to be out in the house with lots of chew toys and to await for your return.
Tex is between 1 and 2 yrs old, currently weighs 54 lbs,and has received a clean bill of health from our veterinarian."
